Prior to me being diagnosed with breast cancer, everything was great in my life. My husband had recently deployed from Iraq, my children were doing well in school and also their extra-curricular activities. What's so surprising about the diagnosis is that I didn't have any symptoms. I had nothing to suggest any signs of breast cancer.

I remember it very well. It was in December of last year, and it was on a Thursday. I was getting dressed to go to the dollar store. I was putting on my boots, and I was actually putting on my left boot; that's just how well I remember it. I didn't hear any voices or see any shadows, but a thought entered my mind. It was just a thought that, "you need to get a mammogram". I just kind of looked up, because I had never experienced anything like that before. As I mentioned before, I didn't feel anything come over me. It was just like we're on the phone and you tell me, "I think I hear someone at the door". You know how we have those thoughts.

I just pondered for a minute, and then I continued to put on my boots and I got in the car. I actually had a cousin in town visiting me from South Carolina, and she rode with me to the dollar store. While we were riding I shared with her that I had a thought while I was getting ready to go get a mammogram. She asked me, "What are you going to do"? I said, "I'm going to go and get one"(laughs).

The Best Lesson Learn In Life: Re-Memory

My best lesson learned in life is not from my educational journey of obtaining three degrees, which required me to move across country three times, or from getting my heat broken or from getting a divorce, nor is it from my yearly journeys of participating in the month of Ramadan. My best lesson learned in life about love stems from losing my parents.

One would think that living life without both my parents, at any age, would be almost like an impossible journey. However, the lesson that I learned is not to wallow in the grief, the absence, the sorrow, the paralysis and the anger that one immediately feels. The most valuable lesson is to embrace the feelings of hurt, but not to stay there.

Brother Jesse: Let's talk about your first music video you just released "Best in the World." Fans like me can take for granted the behind-the-scenes work it takes to put together a video like that. Tell me about the process it took to get it done. Was it harder than you imagined? Was it a major team effort?

Akilah Muhammad: There was a lot of spiritual preparation involved during this summer leading up to my recording this song in November. I prayed and read a lot. But once I get started on a project that I'm passionate about I'm the type of person that moves very quickly. I chose the beat online and I wrote the lyrics to it November 9th and 10th. Going back and forth to record the song took me about three days because I had a certain amount of time each day to record as I was working around people's schedules. By November 15th the song was recorded and I already had in mind how I wanted most of the video to go. I knew I had to move quickly because I also wanted to release the video within the same month!

Balance..... Do You Have It?

In life we as a people and even as a person are placed with speed bumps and obstacles in life. Some people speed up to run right over the speed bumps, not knowing what type of damage it may have on the vehicle. Others may slowdown to a complete stop and get stuck, not sure if the vehicle can even make it over the speed bumps. While others slowdown examining the speed bumps looking for the smoothest way to go over it.

In this day and time we must have balance in our life. With all of the different life changes in our life, the economy falling into all-time highs, not even knowing if job security even exist anymore, and losing more and more trust towards the government.

Remember before you got married and had a family? Do you? I bet you do!!! You probably bring it up everyday in verbal or even mental state of mind. Thinking back to all of the exciting things you use to do. Well today is that day. it's time to take that walk you were missing. Go out with your friends for lunch or dinner. It does not have to be in the club to have a good time. The club was not what made it a good time. It was the social experiences you had with those close individuals of yours. Find a quite "Me" time somewhere. Just a few moments can change your perspective in life.

Look in the mirror!!!! Are you Happy? That can change and you are the only one able to make that change.

Today is the start of a new week. The start of a new you. Today is the initial steps for more balance in your life.

I wrote this because I love you and I have lost balance in life and know with your commitment it will help me to regain my balance back.

Wal-Mart Wins Class Action Lawsuit

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Supreme Court threw out on Monday a massive class-action sex-discrimination lawsuit against Wal-Mart Stores Inc, the biggest ever such case, in a major victory for the world's largest retailer and for big business in general.

The justices unanimously ruled that more than 1 million female employees nationwide could not proceed together in the lawsuit seeking billions of dollars and accusing Wal-Mart of paying women less and giving them fewer promotions.

The Supreme Court agreed with Wal-Mart, the largest private U.S. employer, that the class-action certification violated federal rules for such lawsuits.

It accepted Wal-Mart's argument that the female employees in different jobs at 3,400 different stores nationwide and with different supervisors do not have enough in common to be lumped together in a single class-action lawsuit.

The ruling was cheered by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce business group as the most important class action case in more than a decade but denounced by women's groups.

It represented a major victory for Wal-Mart, which also has faced legal battles including an attempt to unionize and to block the giant retailer from opening stores in New York and other places.

"We are pleased with today's ruling and believe the court made the right decision. Wal-Mart has had strong policies against discrimination for many years," the Bentonville, Arkansas-based company said in a statement.

Wal-Mart shares were up 18 cents to $53.02 in late trading after rising as much as 1.3 percent earlier in the day.

Gisel Ruiz, a company executive vice president, said the ruling effectively ended the class-action lawsuit.

Theodore Boutrous, Wal-Mart's lead attorney in the case, told reporters, "This decision will have a significant impact on other class actions."

The court rejected class-action status but three remaining female plaintiffs still can pursue their individual claims.

CLASS ACTION ENDS BUT LITIGATION DOESN'T

Lawyers for the plaintiffs acknowledged the ruling raised substantial hurdles to bring such challenges forward but warned that Wal-Mart may regret this route because it could lead to lengthier litigation in many more courtrooms.

"I think it is a big win for very large companies because I think part of the message from the majority's decision is ... there are companies that are too big to be held accountable in a single forum for these kinds of practices," said Joseph Sellers, a lawyer for the women who sued the retailer.

He said they were considering options that included pursuing class-action lawsuits with smaller groups of women or proceeding individually, noting that more than 12,000 people have contacted them about discrimination at Wal-Mart.

Two employees of Wal-Mart and its Sam's Club stores who were leading the class-action effort were disappointed with the ruling but said that they would continue their claims.

"We still are determined to go forward and we still are determined to present our case in court and I believe that we will prevail there," said Wal-Mart employee Betty Dukes.

The ruling in the biggest business case of the high court's 2010-11 term could affect pending class-action lawsuits against the tobacco industry and Costco Wholesale Corp.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said ending pay discrimination was a key priority for President Barack Obama but that the U.S. government was not a party to the lawsuit.

"Our lawyers are studying the decision right now to determine what effects it might have," Carney said.

The Obama administration did not take a position in the top court case, although the federal government's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission previously supported the workers.

MOST IMPORTANT CLASS-ACTION RULING SINCE 1960S

Christopher Landau, an attorney at the Chicago-based Kirkland & Ellis law firm, called it the most important class-action decision since the 1960s. "The days of 'drive-by' class certification are over," he said.

Justice Antonin Scalia concluded for the court majority that the Wal-Mart class was not properly certified.

"Because respondents wish to sue about literally millions of employment decisions at once, they need some glue holding the alleged reasons for all those decisions together," he said.

The court's four other conservatives joined all of Scalia's ruling. The court's four liberals joined part of it but dissented in another part.

Large class-action lawsuits make it easier for big groups of plaintiffs to sue corporations and they have led to huge payouts by tobacco, oil and food companies.

Companies such as Wal-Mart have sought to limit such lawsuits to individual or small groups of plaintiffs. The Supreme Court, with a conservative majority that often ruled for businesses, has rejected huge class-action lawsuits.

The Supreme Court case is Wal-Mart Stores Inc v. Betty Dukes, No. 10-277.

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

JayVon Muhammad is a married mother of three, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She holds licensure as a midwife from the California Medical Board, and certification through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). She has more than ten years of experience in women’s healthcare, and is a homebirth advocate.

In 2005, after several years of working in the healthcare field, and learning about the horrible disparities as they relate to healthcare in the Black Community, JayVon founded Urban Midwifery, Inc. Urban Midwifery, Inc. is a non-profit agency dedicated to addressing the disproportionately high infant mortality rates in the Black Community. Today, Urban Midwifery hosts educational workshops and events for undeserved teens and women, and provides free limited prenatal care to uninsured women. Urban Midwifery also collects and distributes groceries, diapers and other necessities to women in need, especially during the holiday season.

In 2008 JayVon accepted a position as a midwife with the Sacramento Birthing Project Clinic, a clinic that serves low-income women. This opportunity allowed her to follow her passion, educating teens, and providing midwifery care to low-income women. This work inspired JayVon to branch out on her own and found SistaGirl Midwifery in 2009.

You wrote two books. What is the name of the books?

1. Baby Mamas, A Midwife's Guide to Ending the Epidemic

2. The Birds & The Bees, Teaching our Daughters the TRUTH about Sex, Relationships, and Marriage

What are you looking to accomplish from these books?

book1: Today, women are becoming pregnant without any knowledge of pregnancy, and/or what it takes to have a healthy pregnancy, and make a healthy baby. Women are entering care ignorant, in poor physical health, in poor social health, and without the proper support.

I wrote Baby Mamas, A Midwife's Guide to Ending the Epidemic, as a tool for my patients/clients. It is a book that they can take home after our first visit, read quickly, and return prepared to discuss...

And it has definitely opened the women up to discussion. They spend the next visit trying to prove to me that "they" are not the women of the book. Ultimately, it opens up for discussion, issues that they would normally avoid.

Over the years I have recognized a pattern for women, young Black Women in particular. Black Women are coming into prenatal care ALONE, without husbands, and rarely with even committed partners. Being alone is complicating our pregnancies, physically and mentally. It is my belief, and professional opinion, that the fact that over 72% of our babies being born out of wedlock to "Baby Mamas" is contributing to the disparity in infant mortality in the Black Community, where our babies die almost three times more than white babies from the time a woman is pregnant until baby reaches one-year old. Of course, there are other factors contributing to the disparity in infant mortality like, smoking, substance abuse, poor nutrition, poverty, etc...

book2: I wrote The Birds & The Bees for mothers. In California, and some other States, there are laws that protects girls 12 and above from having to inform their parents about abortions, or get their parents permission to visit family planning clinics for birth control,pregnancy testing, and abortions. It is criminal, and many mothers don't even know. I wanted to equip mothers with the information that they need to discuss relationships and sex with their daughters themselves. Many times moms express concern about having this conversation, or even ignorance to what should be discussed. The Birds & The Bees introduces mothers to some modern terminology, culture, and suggest a curriculum.

The Birds & The Bees is also written for mothers that have given up, and allowed society to teach their children about sex, verses them teaching abstinence. This became apparent after mother after mother was bringing her daughter into the clinic themselves for birth control, particularly Depo-provera (injection), as early as 13 years-old. I try to reason with, and explain to the mother that when we only address unplanned pregnancy with our daughters, and our desire that they not get pregnant, that is the only message they receive. Then they spend allof their energy avoiding pregnancy instead of avoiding premature sexual relationships that may expose them to pregnancy at the least, and possibly even an uncurable sexually transmitted infection at the most.

What will readers learn from these books?

I think that readers will begin to discuss the importance of proper relationships and marriage before pregnancy. I also think that parents will learn that there is still hope in teaching our girls about abstinence until marriage, and in doing so we are improving the lives of our daughters, and the condition of the community overall.

I think mothers will end the book feeling empowered, and motivated to discuss relationships with their daughters. I also think that mothers will learn some things that will help them with their own health.

I really see how women can value from this book. Tell us how can men benefit from reading these wonderful books?

For men, the book Baby Mamas, A Midwife's Guide to Ending the Epidemic, can also be useful. The information about relationships - the science of mating, applies to both woman and man. Just as women have to go back to basics and learn how to be better women, men have go back and learn how to be better men. That way, we make better couples, better children, and better communities.

The Birds & The Bees, Teaching our Daughters the TRUTH about Sex, Relationships, and Marriage can be very valuable to fathers! Fathers also need to know about the development and obstacles that their daughters are having. They need to learn how to recognize certain behaviors, and understand how girls feel about certain developments, such as her first "period".

Tell us about your business?

I work at a clinic several days weekly, and when not at the clinic I run a "homebirth" practice, SistaGirl Midwifery. At SistaGirl Midwifery we offer homebirth services. We also sell natural and unique products for pregnancy, postpartum, and new mamas/babies.

SistaGirl Midwifery's goal is to bring our pregnant women who are having healthy, low-risk pregnancies, OUT of the hospital, and into the comforts of their home. In the U.S. the Cesarean section rates have skyrocketed, and now 1 out of every 3 births is by Cesarean. This statistic is outrageous! We know that poor women and women of color are more likely to receive an unjustifiable Cesarean section. We are encouraging our women to come out of the hospitals for birth - which is a normal process.

I am also founder and Executive Director of Urban Midwifery, Inc., a non-profit agency dedicated to ending the normalization of the Baby Mama, and educating women about the importance of marriage in pregnancy. Urban Midwifery, Inc. provides free prenatal care to women who do not have insurance, access to our Urban Mama Store which has donated clothing and food, and childbirth education. We also host conferences and workshops that stress the importance of Black Marriage and healthy relationships.

What last thing would you want the world to know about you?

First comes love, then comes marriage, THEN comes the baby in the baby carriage. I am on a CRUSADE to end the normalization of the Baby Mama in the Black Community! I intend to educate all women who cross my path about the importance of healthy marriage in pregnancy. I plan on doing this one woman at a time until all women (and their husbands) are prepared to give birth to a god!

A Mother's Worth Birthing Services

First and foremost, tell the world what is a Doula?

Throughout the annals of time, women in labor have been supported by other women. In recent years, the word, doula, has been used to describe that woman. Doula comes from the Latin meaning woman's servant. I also reference the Arabic word, Abdullah, which means "servant of." While a labor doula is not medically trained, she is fluent in natural comfort measures to help ease the discomfort of labor like massage, visualization, hydrotherapy, aromatherapy, movement and many other techniques. She can provide information on the benefits, risks, and alternatives of hospital interventions to assist families in the decision making process. She does this all while providing continuous emotional and physical support to not only the laboring woman, but her family as well. A doula in on call 24 hours a day from 38 weeks gestation until labor begins. Doulas remain with their clients for the duration of the labor, the birth, and at least one hour postpartum. If it's 24 hours or 4 hours, doulas don't leave! Doulas do not replace dads, grandmas, or aunties, but work with them as a team to provide the best support possible.

What got you started to become a Doula?

I was blessed to have a doula at the birth of my twins seven years ago. The hospital where I gave birth offered its patients a doula free of charge through a grant based program. I really wanted a natural birth and while my husband was wonderful, I was struggling! I requested a doula and shortly after a perfect stranger arrived to help me. My doula, Cynthia, helped me through labor positions, massaged my feet and back, breathed with me through contractions, and even took pictures after the babies arrived. Needless to say, she didn't leave a stranger; she left as a dear friend! I have never forgotten that experience and after a difficult pregnancy was so thankful to say I had a wonderful birth. Cynthia and the knowledge I acquired during that pregnancy ignited a desire in me to help other women in labor. That desire has grown in a burning passion and manifested itself into my business, A Mother's Worth Birth Services.

How long have you been one?

I have been working as a doula for 7 years now. I started supporting women after my first birth experience and haven't looked back. I have a young family and for the many years I devoted my time to teaching childbirth education and providing breastfeeding support. Now that the children are a little older, I'm focusing more on the doula side of my business.

How common is it to use a Doula and/or a midwife in the birthing process?

In the White/Caucasian community, doulas have become very commonplace. Many women seek them out, are willing to pay, and are benefiting from their services. Even if they don't already know the term "doula" once it's explained, they recognize the benefits. And as mothers grow dissatisfied with obstetricians and the medical model of maternity care, many are turning to midwives, stand alone birth centers, and home births. In the Black community and others of Color, not so much! The same goes for attending independent childbirth birth education classes. I find myself having to not only brand my business in the birth world, but having to explain why it's important to even take a class or "hire" someone to attend a birth. I see a great sense of apathy as it concerns birth in our community. This is very disheartening considering that the Black community is at the top of every negative statistics concerning childbirth. Those statistics include infant mortality (death), maternal mortality (death), premature birth (babies born to soon), low and very low birth weight (under 5 lbs). It is my sincere belief that Allah (God) answers our prayers and cries for help through the womb. When we do not honor and reverence the birth process, we are denying ourselves freedom, justice, and equality.

Is there such thing as a black Doula? (explain)

Well, yes and no. I'll explain. As a doula, I can and will support any woman in labor. I do not market myself as a Black doula. Birth is as universal as a baby's first cry. The process is the same for all women, and in my heart I believe that every woman deserves the high quality care and attention provided by a doula. The difference lies in the way we are handled by medical professionals. When I became a mother, I was 24 years old, married, held a bachelor's degree, had a professional job, and took over 20 hours in childbirth education classes, but was treated by some nurses like the most ignorant person on Earth. No one understands racism until you've felt it. So in that regard, when it comes to advocating for the rights of laboring women and understanding the cultural nuisances we face, I believe we do have to make a distinction.

Why should people have home births and/or use that profession over utilizing the experts of the Doctor profession?

Currently in the US, home births account for less than 1% of all births, while it is estimated that 90% of the world's population was born at home. What's wrong with this picture? Women have reported that birthing at home was more comfortable, more convenient, and a way to keep the process normal. A woman in labor is not sick, she's having a baby! I believe that the number is low in the US for two reasons.
One is the cost factor. Unless a family chooses to birth unassisted that is with no medical professional present, they will hire a midwife to attend their birth and provide prenatal and postpartum care. The fee that the midwife will charge is usually not covered by insurance thus must be paid out of pocket by the family. Although most midwives do offer payment plans, this is a major barrier for most people. In doula work, I run into the same issue. Folks just can't understand why it cost so much. I find it interesting that most them spent more on their wedding cakes than I charge and I would venture to say the total costs of the wedding was more than the midwives' fees. It's simply an investment. An investment in a memory that you will recall vividly for the rest of your life is the birth of your child.

The second reason I will offer is that many worry that something will go wrong. WHO, the World Health Organization, has reported that 90% of all births will be normal, uncomplicated births. WHO has also stated that there is no evidence to support that for women who are considered low risk, home birth is no less safe than birthing in a hospital. I believe when we begin to have confidence in the birth process again, we will understand that the fear of home birth is unfounded. We have become so reliant on technology, we have forgotten that the act of birth was created and ordained by Almighty God, Allah. We just have to believe.

You have explained the business from the eyes of others. Well tell us about your business?

A Mother’s Worth Birth Services was created to educate, support, and encourage mothers in a fresh, engaging way. Its mission is to lower the infant mortality rate, decrease the rate of-premature birth, and increase the number of breastfeeding mothers through childbirth education classes, doula services, Dancing for Birth (TM) classes and breastfeeding support.

This is a series that I have started up to honor men. YES MEN. You hardly ever hear anything good in regards of men, so I want the world to know about good and even great men.

Let me introduce you to Brian Muhammad and his wife Rebecca Muhammad who wants the world to know how great of a husband and father he is. (These are her words)

Brian Muhammad to any average person would look like a typical blackman working, raising a family, and working his mission helping to resurrect the dead. But to me his wife he's much more. As a father his heart is big. Not displaying the average father

role that has been displayed over the last 100 or so years. He's the best role model for his daughters when they decide to choose a mate. He makes his daughters feel comfortable to be around him and anyone can see they love him dearly.

If I could do it all over I would wish he was my dad. As a husband what can I say I never used to believe, in my condition the Allah would create a man just for me, my total opposite. But he did, each year of our marriage he does something that makes me fall in love with him over and over again. He goes over hills and mountains to maintain his family and lets no struggle hold him back. Always advancing himself in every way possible he keeps me on my toes. Whenever trials come at him he never shows fear his motto is find Allah's hands in this and keeps moving forward. Or pray to Allah then you go answer your prayer through work.

A strong blackman I know I have pure diamonds. He's not a catch he's a future God in the making so I'm always watchful for vultures.....lol. He's not emotional or sensitive he's understanding to my ever needs, make Allah the center is what I heard ringing in my ear he knows how to be a man,

a Muslim, a father. What I want sisters to know is, don't give up deem yourself worthy, there is such thing as a soul mate or the perfect husband and mines is Brian Muhammad.

Peace and blessings,

I just wanted to take a few minutes of your time to tell you that I love you. We have reached that hour of the year where we fast and pray. It is called "RAMADAN".

For any of you that may not be informed of it.

Take a few minutes to look it up. Just a little description. We open our Holy Qurans and read for 30 days while withholding ourselves from food and beverages during the sunlight hours. We reconnect ourselves to Allah (God) and purify ourselves to become better servants of His cause.

I pray that each and everyone of you that will be partaking in the fast this year, to have a blessing and successful fast. If any of you that want to pledge a day or two, please do. YOu will see how powerful the graces of Allah(God) is.

This is a crucial topic for a troubled time. With the attack in International Waters on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, the "state" of Israel basically declared war on itself. You do not attack a mission of Peace, nor do U harm/murder/terrorize Doctors, Nurses and other helpmeets with impunity in this digital age. Holy Land belongs to all people of books - Muslim, Jew, Christian alike. "Israeli", "Jewish", "Zionist", "Israel" - these are words that have been tampered with to create a group of people and their collective ideas/plans who are not the Original inhabitants of the land. They are part of a larger global conspiracy we should all be uniting to fight to eradicate. Recently, I have been interested in the NOI, and have started listening to more speeches and doing my own research. The words that Honorable Minister Farrakhan has given make me think twice about a lot of things and have brought a deeper meaning to self and perseverance.

I think that the topic is very touchy but yet important subject that needs to be discussed. I believe that Honorable Minister Farrakhan will do an excellent job in delivering the message.

I think that the value of carrying out his lecture in Atlanta is to carry his message is to inform other communities. I think that Atlanta is an excellent place, other than Chicago, to broadcast and deliver his speech.

Yes, I have heard of Mr. Farrakhan on many occasions, starting from the time I was a young girl involved in the immigrant rights movement in Los Angeles in the 1990s. Mr. Farrakhan was often invoked by organizers and participants and I recall having seen his likeness, as well as reading his words, on many occasions since.

I can't say that I have ever heard Mr. Farrakhan speak, although I have seen him in SoundBits and clips on news programs.

In your personal views, who is the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and what has he done to benefit your life?

Mr. Farrakhan, in my humble and uninformed opinion, is a community leader not only for NOI but for the African-American community in the United States. In my uninformed opinion, I'm not sure he always does so in the most effective or most politically correct way, but I think that probably in his mind he's trying to help his people. I can respect his intentions, although I do believe that part of being a leader is being mindful that to change society you have to change the way you behave were you not a leader.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is taking on a topic: “Who Are The Real Children of Israel”. What do you think about that topic?

I think the topic of Israel is a complex one that has been discussed in countless tomes and, ultimately, an issue that each person has their own opinion on.

Perhaps to reach a new audience? After so many years broadcasting from Chicago people might begin to associate his message with that particular geographic area, getting out to spread the word could be part of a strategy to show that his message is more universal?

Of course, it is by the work and faith of Farrakhan that I live. I never was privileged to physically meet the Jesus, the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad. And yet I have life. Being a young man, my life in many ways is the direct result of the work and faith of Minister Louis Farrakhan. So in the scripture, Paul had conflict with the elders of the church on behalf of the young. In my view, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is THE MAN the World has been waiting for. He is the Spirit of Truth. He is the man who is to reprove the world of Sin. He is the man who is making war with the beast. As a result of his work, myself and many others, that were once dead, are now alive. He is uniting the dry bones in the valley. He is a divine Leader, Teacher, and Guide. And heeding to his call was absolutely MY saving Grace. I believe if we would listen to him, it could mean all of our salvation.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is a divinely guided man who has been prepared to be the guiding light for all of the human family in these dark times; he is the door and through him is the way to achieving ultimate peace, love and prosperity. He has forced me to take a deeper look within myself and begin to understand not only the concept of “purpose for being” but also why it is necessary to put our talents to good use in order to effectively service our people.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is taking on a topic: “Who Are The Real Children of Israel”. What do you think about that topic?

I think it will awaken many of us who have believed that we, the darker peoples of this world, have no purpose or importance. I also believe that it will give new life and inspire a newly refined spirit among those of us who have been actively servicing our communities throughout the country and throughout the world. It will inspire new vision, from which new strategies will emerge to uplift our people into a higher consciousness of self.

The name Atlanta itself refers to a Greek mythological hero who was left to die in a wilderness by her parents as a baby. She grew up overcoming the great challenges found in that wilderness in order to eventually become the very best in all things and gaining the attention of the world. This represents the story of a people who were taken from their original homeland and are now living in a strange land, generally regarded in the Bible as a wilderness. These are a people who have overcome great difficulty, pain, torture and even death but today have the attention of the world in many areas, especially in sports which the mythological hero excelled in above all others. No other people fit the description of this story most than Black people (the so-called Negro) in America. I believe the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan’s lecture will be reawakening to what our potential is to lead fallen humanity into the very best way of life we can live.

Yes, I have not just heard of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, but met many of his followers in person. Thus, I see the impact that his teachings, as well as those of the Hon. Elijah Muhammad, has had on their lives.

Have you ever heard the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan speak before?

I finally got to see him in person TWICE this year. It was one of the highlights of my life. Sure, my zeal for him may cause me to be judged by my journalism peers unfairly, but that's a risk I'm willing to take. I applaud the truth. I'm sure that even the Minister's most profound critics can agree that he's an intriguing and informative man.

In your personal views, who is the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and what has he done to benefit your life?

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is a servant of God and servant of the people. In fact, that's how all of us should think of ourselves. Yet, he has done work for our community that can not be ignored. Minister Farrakhanhas used his voice to inspire thousands, if not millions, of black men and women to become better people. For me, he has benefited my life by constantly reminding me that "without a vision, a people perish." (Proverbs 29:18)

But the vision is not for him or for this current generation. Remember, the scripture tells us that we should, " Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it." (Habbakuk 2:2). Our ancestors built a White House that they never got to live in, fought for equality that some of them never achieved, and established colleges that turned into world renown universities. This is because they paved a road for succeeding generation to travel on. And that's what I believe the Minister wants you and me to do.

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan is taking on a topic: “Who Are The Real Children of Israel”. What do you think about that topic?

This is a tough one to answer, given the Minister's controversial relationship with the Jewish community. But I will say that most Jewish people I've met or read about online are starting to see him in a new light. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rebecca-sive/louis-farrakhan-preaches_b_575885.html) Plus, a lot of folks are unaware of the Black Israelites movement. But as a journalist, I think that it's important to represent ALL sides of an issue- not just those sides which are popular. We have to respect the beliefs of others, as long as they don't involve bodily or spiritual harm inflicted upon us. Since the Bible tells us that we "know in part", it is important to remember that no one has all the answers.

Normally the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan carries his lectures live from Chicago, Illinois but, on June 26, 2010 he will be carrying the lecture from the Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta, GA. What do you think is the value of carrying his lecture in Atlanta?

According to the Nation of Islam website, Atlanta is the hub for the Southern Region. When you think of the need for better race relations in some areas of the South, the selection of Atlanta appears to be a no-brainer. Sure, Atlanta is far more integrated than some northern cities, but there are still stories of underlying racism still present throughout the South. Plus, Atlanta represents a new kind of Black Metropolis- just as Chicago did in the past. You have the Atlanta University Center which features Morehouse, Spelman, Clark Atlanta, and Morris Brown. It is the perfect place to reach an audience of people who will become future leaders.

Yes I am. However, my schedule can become rather busy at a moments notice. But I do plan to be informed by the Minister in whatever way I can.

There are people who never heard the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. What would you tell them to get them to finally hear him?

I would say to folks who might not want to hear the Minister because of their personal reservations: "TRY SOMETHING NEW." Life is very boring when you only talk to folks you agree with and hang around folks who are just like you. There's some truth to every opinion on Earth (except the perverted and demonic ones). So, experience what he has to say and then be the judge for yourself. Don't depend on a news sound bite to tell you what you can hear with your own two ears.

Although it seems that it has been a longtime coming, it is right around the corner. Extractively 1 month and 1 day from today I will be around friends and family saying the "I DO" three times to my wife to be.

The closer we get to this day, more stuff I find out that we still need to do. The place is booked and paid for, the caterer is paid for, the cake is done, I have my tux, and I still have groomsmen needing to get fitted.

With all that is going on, I have taking a weekend away from my norm to drive to California to pack my queen up and move her in the place of living we will soon share together.

Many people say they are coming, but why the same ones still have not RSVP? ha ha ha lol we are horrible with that.

(Phoenix, AZ) April 5, 2010-The “Stop the Violence” Peace Fest was founded in April 1999 by Therman A. Stewart Jr. with the hopes of stopping the violence that was devastating our community. Our attendance from April 1999 to current has grown from 500 to 8,500 in the past nine years without one incident of violence which proves our community desires unity and peace. In a time of increasing violence, financial distress and economic frustration… it is important to stress and advocate the idea and promotion of peace.

It’s time to stop the violence with the 9^thAnnual Peace Fest being presented by B.E.A., Inc. and Sophisticated Gents. Guest speakers will include Senator Leah Landrum-Taylor, Representative Cloves Campbell Jr., City of Phoenix Councilman Michael E. Johnson and Vice Mayor Michael Nowakoski and many more very effective leaders in our community. There will be Arizona’s finest local artists, classic and custom cars, poetry, various community business vendors, Jumpers for the children and food and fun for all. We will honor those people who are stars in our community and who have worked diligently to help cultivate the community, as well as the people who live in it.

These statistics are the reasons that the “Stop the Violence” Peace Fest is important and must continue: A quarter (25%) of high school boys and 12% of middle school males took a weapon to school at least once in the past year. [Josephson Institute, 2006 Report Card on the Ethics of American Youth]. In 2004, 5,292 young people ages 10 to 24 were murdered -- an average of 15 each day. Persons under the age of 25 accounted for nearly 50% of those arrested for murder and 62% of those arrested for robbery in 2005. The number of youths involved with gangs has not declined and remains near the peak levels. The average age of a gang member is 14-21 years of age. However, gang members can be as young as 8 years old to the mid 30’s. 85-95% of all domestic violence victims are female. 1,232 women are killed each year by an intimate partner. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women. Approximately 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States. In the past year, there were 2088 violent crimes reported in the District 8 Phoenix area.

The Peace Fest theme this year is to bring peace and unity to our community. With the series of Peace Tour/Block Parties that was done in key neighborhoods, we were able to meet with and affect these areas one neighborhood at a time. We would like the State of Arizona to lead the way in this important event to be a model figure for the world! Come help us bring awareness to the community and spread the word of PEACE on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at South Mountain Activity Center, 10919 S. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85042 from 12 PM to 6 PM.

Colangelo: Skip worlds at your own peril

USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo has a message for LeBron James (notes), Dwyane Wade (notes) and the rest of the NBA stars leaning toward skipping the 2010 World Championships without an approved alibi: You’ve lost your guarantee for a roster spot at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

“There are no free passes to London,” Colangelo told Yahoo! Sports on Wednesday night. “There are no special rules for anyone. If someone decides to pass without a legit issue, they do it with an understanding of the risk.”

James publicly insisted Wednesday that “I’m probably not playing,” and his reasoning for sitting out the late-summer training camp and tournament – a busy schedule – doesn’t fall within the excused absences Colangelo has laid out. James hasn’t directly told Colangelo of his plans, but he joins Wade in publicly expressing doubt about playing in the World Championships in Turkey.

Two sources familiar with Wade’s plans say the Miami Heat star has already decided against playing for Team USA this summer. Colangelo has wanted to hold national team players to a revolving three-year commitment on the way to the Olympic Games. How can he still get his biggest stars to Turkey this summer?

Perhaps the shoes will help. Nike has a huge financial stake in USA Basketball, and James and Wade are two of the company’s most important pitchmen. The global stage is important for pushing product, and Colangelo isn’t fearful of exploiting this fact.

“The players are intelligent and they understand that some of this whole thing brands them in the international marketplace,” he said. “And maybe they’ll make some decisions based on the fact that certainly Nike has a big impact on them in terms of what their contract may or may not say about this.”

Free agency starts July 1, and the game’s biggest stars – James, Wade and the Toronto Raptors’ Chris Bosh (notes) – will likely have resolution on where they will sign by the middle of the month.

With several other stars also destined for free agency, Colangelo had no expectation they would play and risk injury in the July minicamp in Las Vegas. Colangelo calls himself “flexible,” and says he’ll accept contract status, injury and pressing family matters as reasons for an excused absence.

Nevertheless, he wants all of Team USA to minimally show up for the July minicamp while free agency gets underway, and expects that once deals are signed all the players will attend the August training camp in New York. Team USA has a pool of 27 players to bolster the roster; it would most fear losing Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard (notes) for the World Championships. Outside of him, the U.S. could be forced to go with Boston’s Kendrick Perkins (notes) to play center.

Team USA’s oldest and youngest stars – the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (notes) and Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant (notes) – are committed to playing this summer. As one source said, “Kobe will probably take inventory on his body at the end of the season,” but he is planning to play. Durant nearly made the 2008 Olympic team as a 19-year-old rookie and promises to be an immense part of Team USA’s future. Durant will be a star among stars the moment he steps on the floor.

“He’s one of the best five, maybe six, players in the NBA already,” Colangelo said. “He’s a pretty good replacement for anyone.”

Durant is young and hungry, and Team USA can use him. The World Championships doesn’t inspire tremendous enthusiasm for the returning players who won a gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Yet Team USA lost to Greece in the World Championships’ medal round in 2006, a deflating defeat that stays with some of that team’s players.

Lady Gaga vs Erykah Badu: Who's New Single Draws The Masses?

There has been a lot buzz about these two major artist. Erykah Badu has just recently took her video "Window Seat" off of you tube after all of the controversy about her being naked and being snipe in the same location as former President "John F. Kennedy."

A lot of the buzz towards her is about a phenomenal soul singer going trashy.

Now Lady Gaga just release a new single featuring RnB Diva "Beyonce". In her video there were a lot of homosexuality, nudity, and advertisement. One major plot in her video reminded me of "Tru TV" with the show "Black Widows."

Both of these artist have major influence on the masses of the people, but how can we praised one and the other one be damned? Lady Gaga's single is one of the topped viewed and like videos, while Erykah Badu has done much less graphic attention and has been look at as a savage.

Well, why would they both be involved in making these type of videos?
If you look at the music industry from the past to now. You can see how much more graphic language and actions have taken place. This leads to Marketing and attention. Think about it. How many of your friends have you spoke to about anyone of these videos? how many times have you viewed it? There are others who have passed it on more than you have. One of the main focuses of strategy is "ATTENTION." Who can get the most attention. I love Erykah Badu's music and will continue to purchase her albums. Lets look at her situation.

When was the last time Erykah Badu had a major buzz on her music? I KNOW, you cant think of one. Oh, Yeah, "You better call on Tyrone" he may be able to give you an answer.

We must remember that these are artist and they have sells to make. If they do not make any sells they lose their jobs. yes, their jobs.

My dear sisters. this may have been a call for help, on behave of Ms. Badu. She has three children by three different men and a possibility of losing her job if she does not do well on the charts.

I want you to remember that, people have bosses and until we have our own we will be pimped.

God Has Blessed Me With A New Life

I have been taught since a child that God created everything. What I have learned is that, everything has order and the proper nature in which it functions. However He (God) gave us, free will. Many of us have exercised that free will as we please. I know I have.

As I was moving all of my belongings into the new place for my future wife and I. I noticed a semi box. Now men we call this box the or book, "The Black Book." Yes, well I had a box. As I looked through it straightening up the place, I started to reflect. "Now Calm down, not the type of reflection you expect." I look back at all of the goods and bads I have done by women and my own life. I begin to tear up in rejoice to know that Allah (God0 would bless me with such a mate.

Many men wonder and question themselves, "Am I Ready?" Well, I am. I truly believe I have closed the chapter of a very long book and opened a new book. This book is not like an other book. It is hard to put it down. This book is the book of DeAndrea. If you do not have a book like that to read. I recommend you get one. This type of book, is the type that will truly change your life, and bring you complete happiness. You know why? Because I believe God wrote this book.

If you are reading this. Get off of the computer, turn of the television, and read a book.

You Must Win Over the Parents First.

This past weekend I was in LA area of California spending time with my queen and her family. When being in courtship from a far can be difficult. Especially when the parents ask about you and you now there physically to build a bond with them. In the Nation of Islam's Courtship Manual, it informs both parties to get to learn as much about the parties family. this is a reflection of what you will be marrying.

That was my focus, but not just because I am marrying their daughter, but because I am always concerned of my family. It is nice learning people views on different subjects and spending time with your mates party. I have learned a lot about them and respect them so dearly. The grand parents were the first to welcome me into the family and gave me great advice. I pray that I utilize it wisely.

My queens mother does not know how FOI gets down. After the meeting I met them at the house and Mrs. Washington was about to lift this big plant in a pot out of the vehicle. So when she saw me lift it in my suit not worrying about getting my clothes dirty amazed her. Plus rolling up my sleeves to help her plant in in the yard really had her looking like: "Brother you are going to get your clothes all dirty and DeAndrea is going to be mad at me." FOI is always ready to get dirty. Well that is how I was raised. That is what dry cleaners are for. Ha ha ha lol. That is what I told her.

I think I learned a lot and won them over to become their new son. They allowed me to rest on the couch before my flight back to Phoenix. Catch how my queen took pictures of me as I was out for the count.I love you Mr and Mrs Washington. I love you too Mr. and Mrs. Mack. Thank you so much for making me fell like family. I pray that Sister DeAndrea and I have a long lasting married like you all.

Like ROYALTY. They make sure I am comfortable. Not just that, Student Minister Robert Muhammad always gives an awesome lecture. The believers never let me slide in and try to blend in. They always find a way to introduce me to different believers and networks.
